Error Messages

Show doesn´t start

When a stream does not start, you get a error message in the stream window. This might take a while, so please wait, because this message helps us to find the reason for the problem

Error "firewall blocked access"
Flatcast uses the protocol UDP on port 40123. Your PC doesn´t support this in the moment. The most common reasons are

  • You are connected via a router/firewall, which blocks UDP.
  • You have a "Personal Firewall" installed like ZoneAlarm, XP Firewall etc. Open within this firewall port 40123 for UDP.
  • You enter the internet only via a proxy server.Enter a gateway in your network settings

Error "no free stream entry point"
Flatcast uses P2P-technology. Currently there is no node, which could deliver you the stream data. If only a small number of viewers join the stream, the reason for the problem might be at the others. If you got the problem more often, the most common reasons are:

  • You have installed a "Personal Firewall" like ZoneAlarm, XP Firewall etc. Open within this firewall port 40123 for UDP.
  • You are connected via a router/firewall with the internet, which blocks UDP frames. Create a fixed mapping on port 40123 to the sender PC.

Error "sorry, but you can open only one flatcast stream"
You tried to receive more than one flatcast stream at once. This is not possible. Please close the currently running stream, before opening another one.

Error "show has already been finished"
The stream has already been finished by the producer. Retry later again. Maybe the producer starts the stream again.

Error "network error"
Your network does not support the protocol UDP on Port 40123. Propably the port is already in use by another application.

Error "you are banned"
You offended several times against the Flatiquette. You are now expelled from all streams

FLATCAST-Version F5 released!!!!

Hi @all,

version F5 is now available for all users. The essential modifications are described in the following topic.

How to use F5? ... Either register a new stream (and select F5) or modify your existing stream record:

1. If your stream is on air please stop it.

2. In 'Boadcasters area' click at "Change stream's data' and select in form 'additional settings' version F5.

3. ... in form 'URL to the show' enter the URL to your web site's imprint (alternatively you have to enter and release the required data ... name, address, mailaddress to your FLATCAST-account; then you may use the default link)

4.During next stream start you have to draw the new control. Your user have to draw the new player control too.

Though the software is tested very well, new releases usually cause some problems (we try to solve problems and fix possible bugs as soon as possible). If there is a big problem ... stop stream, select in stream record version 4.16 and restart your stream.

Have fun

Informations concerning F5

1. Smileys

There are more smileys now. You may insert several smileys in your text-line. There are also shortcuts available (see picture).

2. New splash screen at stream start.

3. Streamstart (buffer filling) is quicker now

4. Improvement of video quality

5. Operating of producer is much easier

Only for purpose of designing presets you have to switch to design-/expert mode

6. After start of stream (or takeover) the chat is in 'safe mode'

7. Introduction of a permanent list concerning chat friends (details see next topic).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Chat Modes

There are 2 different chat modes ... "safe mode" and "open mode".

"safe mode" means, you have fully control who may participate at your chat.

"open mode" means, that new users may participate at your chat.

The actual chate mode is displayed at the head of the user listbox. To switch the mode just click at the mode display.

!!! After stream start or takeover the chat is alway in "safe mode" !!!

2. State of Chatters

There are 4 different states , , and .

, : means those users may chat without any restriction.
: the user may send/read private messages to/from the broadcast. For other users these lines are invisible (as well as former written lines) .
: It's like but the user can't send private messages to the broadcaster (broadcaster -> user is possible).

i.e. , all rights, some rights, no rights.

left mouse (at , ) increases right leves, right mouse click vice verse ...

To switch user state to : CTRL-key + left mouse click at , or . Only real logged in users (underlining in user listbox!) may be set to .

The State of chatters is independent from the chat mode.

3. Takeover from stream

After takeover the user state of chatters will be the same as before, but the chat mode is always 'safe'.

4. Whats the Difference between the Chat Modes?

The difference concerns new visitors from your broadcast.

4.1. "Safe Mode"

An anonymous user (with guest number oder temporary user nick) visits your broadcast:

The user may send private messages to the broadcaster. Only this conversation is visible to the user. The broadcaster has to decide if he wants to switch the user state to or (i.e. fully chat access) or to block the user ().

In case of a FLATCAST-User (who is logged in):

If the user has gotten state during a former visit, the user has fully chat access.
If the user has gotten state during a former visit, the user is blocked i.e. again state.
Otherwise the broadcaster has to decide if chat access is allowed or not.

4.2. "Open Mode"

The new visitor, has fully chat access. The only exception is (after log in) he gots in a former session.

5. Restart of Stream

and states from former visits will be restored if a visitor logs in.

Open Chat (default): Each future(!) user/listener get chat state (i.e. all rights).
Restricted Chat: Each future(!) user/listener get chat state (i.e. some rights). Only whispering with producer/broadcast possible.
